About Adam
Adam Hiller is a registered Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience working with children, adolescents and families across educational and clinical settings.
He is legally authorised to practise as a Clinical Psychologist in Belgium by the Federal Public Service Health (SPF Santé publique), Clinical Psychologist visa no. 490902, and is registered with the Belgian Commission of Psychologists, registration no. 8113119712.
From education to clinical psychology
Originally from the UK, Adam began his career as a classroom teacher before specialising in learning support and inclusion within mainstream education in London. After moving abroad in 2010, he continued this work in international schools, working with children and families from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. His role involved understanding the learning and developmental needs of individual children, reducing barriers to participation and learning, and working with teachers and parents to develop inclusive approaches within the classroom and wider school environment.
Adam subsequently completed his postgraduate studies in psychology and gained clinical experience within specialist autism services. His combined background in psychology and education continues to shape his approach today: understanding a child’s psychological, developmental and learning profile and considering what this means within the context of their everyday life.
Experience and professional development
Over the course of his career, Adam has worked directly with hundreds of children and families, from providing targeted intervention for children experiencing difficulties with literacy development to supporting children with complex developmental, learning and emotional needs.
He continues to develop his clinical practice through professional education and training in areas including child and adolescent neuropsychology, psychometric and neuropsychological assessment, neurodevelopmental assessment and cognitive behavioural approaches.
Alongside his clinical and educational work, Adam has worked in academic research and has published in peer-reviewed journals in the fields of psychotherapy and digital mental health. His research has included work on psychological interventions for depression, the therapeutic relationship, and ethical issues arising from the use of digital technology in mental health care.
An integrated approach
Adam’s background in both psychology and education informs an approach that considers not only the difficulties a child may be experiencing, but also their strengths, their learning and developmental profile, and the environments in which they live and learn.
Identifying a difficulty is only part of the process. The aim is to use psychological understanding to reduce barriers to learning and wellbeing and identify practical ways to support meaningful change at home, at school and in everyday life.
Adam lives in Belgium with his partner and three children. He works primarily in English and is also fluent in German, having completed his postgraduate studies in Vienna, Austria.
